LGBT History Month is a month-long annual observance of lesbian, lgbtq+, bisexual and gender diverse history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.
Currently, LGBT History Month is a month-long celebration that is specific to the United States and the Joined Kingdom. LGBT History Month was initiated in the UK by Sue Sanders, Elly Barnes and Schools OUT UK, and first took place in February The event came in the wake of the abolition of Section 28 in and is intended to raise awareness of and combat prejudice against, an otherwise substantially invisible minority

UNISON South East’s LGBT+ Group fights discrimination and prejudice in the workplace on behalf of its lesbian, gay, attracted to both genders, transgender, and all those members who identify under the LGBT+ umbrella.

February is LGBT+ (Lesbian, Male lover, Bi and Trans) History Month
LGBT+ (Lesbian, Male lover, Bi and Trans) History Month in the UK celebrates the lives and achievements of the Diverse community and has been held every February since The campaign provides an opportunity to discover Homosexual past and celebrate its present and future - this hidden history can reveal some surprising and inspiring stories.
Through participating in LGBT+ History Month, Surrey Heritage is able to bring Surrey's LGBTQ+ history to a wider audience. This helps stimulate interest in a little famous area of the county's past, promotes further explore, and can even participate new volunteers. Co-ordinating our efforts with community organisations and other Surrey County Council services helps to raise the profile of our collections and encourages more material to be placed with us.
Each year we have a unlike themed display which showcases famous and not-so-famous figures from Surrey's LGBTQ+ history. Those featured so far include Alan Turing, Edward Carpenter, Noel Coward, Dirk Bogarde, Dame Ethel Smyth, Quentin Crisp,
Note: Traveling as an LGBTQ+ person always carries a certain degree of risk. It is our reality as we navigate a earth with 60+ countries criminalizing our relationships and a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation around the world. We encourage our traveling group to understand the laws and cultural challenges they may face in any destination they choose to see for Pride and beyond. Don't be afraid of the world, but always research information specific to your travels. Enjoy Pride, be vigilant, and look out for each other!
The LGBTQ+ rights movement has made tremendous strides over the past limited decades and much of the progress in awareness is thanks in part to gay pride parades and marches that own taken place in cities around the world.

There are a number of days and months observed, celebrated, and honored by the LGBTQ community. While the list below is specific to LGBTQ-focused days, weeks, and months, LGBTQ people also observe and honor non-LGBTQ specific moments such as Black History Month, Latinx Heritage Month, International Holocaust Remembrance Afternoon, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Women’s History Month, and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Media coverage of these and other non-LGBTQ focused moments should include LGBTQ people and the intersections of LGBTQ people and the respective topic.
