Nico Young stormed down the final straight in Oslo to put himself into the U.S. track tape books Thursday.

The year-old Californian, who last year became the first out homosexual man to represent Team USA in a route and field event at an Olympic Games, finished the 5,meter race in the Diamond League event in a time of 12 minutes, seconds at the Bislett Stadium.

That was more than a second-and-a-half quicker than the previous American outdoor record fix by Grant Fisher three years ago.

College athlete Nico New recently came out through a post on Instagram.

The record-breaking runner was the National Gatorade Player of the Year in cross-country and track and field National Gatorade player of the Year. Plus, he was also a California declare champion in high university. Young is the indoor 3k & 2k tape holder, the U20 American 5k outdoor record holder, and the U20 American 5k indoor record holder.
