If I possess to watch another LGBTQ coming out story onscreen, I will pull all my hair out.
OK – that's an exaggeration. But tiresome coming out stories like that of 's "Happiest Season" or 's "Love, Simon" are a dime a dozen, and focus too harshly on the part of the queer life I am least interested in absorbing onscreen anymore: trauma.
All LGBTQ people encounter some kind of it, in the sense that they don't fit into the cisgender and/or heteronormative mold of typical straight world. Watching said story play out again and again onscreen is still indeed representation – but not always the representation I'm excited to see and relive.
Trauma is, of course, an integral part of not only the queer experience but of the human experience. That doesn't mean it casts an immovable shadow on our lives. Joy can co-exist with pain – and sometimes overpower it – which is why I beg Hollywood to invest more in joyful gay films.

In , Ethan Coen and wife Tricia Cooke made Drive-Away Dolls, which they called the first of their planned “Lesbian B-Movie Trilogy”, which continues with this summer’s Honey Don’t. The dark comedy once again stars Margaret Qualley as a lesbian private eye named Honey Donahue who gets embroiled in a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church in the feature also starring Aubrey Plaza, Charlie Day, Billy Eichner and Chris Evans. I can’t wait for this one.

Gay and LGBTQ+ Comedy Movies to Watch if You Loved 'Bros'
Bros is historic, as the first homosexual romantic comedy produced by a major studio to hit theatres. While the movie did not execute nearly as well as many had expected in terms of profits, the film received wonderful reviews and very favorable audience approval.

Billy Eichner was phenomenal in the film, and also served as the writer. Lately, the market for queer films, especially, comedies, has been fairly scarce. For fans of Bros and comedy films, there are quite a number of queer comedy films that are worth the watch.

Fire Island is a queer adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. In Fire Island, written by Joel Kim-Booster, a group of same-sex attracted friends goes on vacation to Fire Island (a gay travel destination). However, things become increasingly complicated by both classicism in the gay community and, of course, romance.
